Who is Helena?
Helenas' Family
Helena has been married to David for almost 23 years, and they have three children. Leo (18) just graduated from Northwestern High School and is pursuing a Helicopter Maintenance degree, Chloe (16) is a junior a Northwestern High School and Izabel (13) is in 8th grade at Dutchman Creek Middle School. All three children went to Mt Gallant Elementary, and have been active in athletics and the arts.
Helena's Background
She is originally from Sweden and moved to the United States in 1997, and has enjoyed living in Rock Hill since 2003. She proudly become a United States citizen in 2006, and serving on the school board is her way of giving back to the community that welcomed Dave and her with open arms. She holds a B.A. in Communication with a minor in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and is currently pursuing a Master's in Strategic Communication and Organizational Leadership from Boras University with an expected completion date of January 2023. Helena jokingly says that she is a professional volunteer, and believes in being a life long learner.
Helena serves kids in the community
- PTA- Current state president of the South Carolina PTA. Has served in various leadership and volunteer positions since her oldest started Kindergarten. She is an active member of Dutchman Creek PTA.
- SIC- Past SIC chair of Mt Gallant Elementary
- Boy Scouts- Helena and her husband are both active leaders, and all three kids are raised in the scouting movement. Helena serves as the first female president of the Palmetto Council.
- Bethelwoods Camp- Helena serves on the board in this newly started 501 (c)3 with a mission to offer a camp facility with Christian values.
- Rock Hill Schools Education Foundation- David and Helena are annual sponsors, and Helena served as a board member prior to being elected to the school board. She regularly volunteers at Back the Back and other events.
- The Girl's Home- Helena served as a board member and Chairman for four years.
- A Place for Hope- Helena served as the chairman and avid volunteer at the community center in the Blackmon Road community, specifically with after-school mentoring for kids.
- NHS Chorus Booster Club- Helena serves as a parent volunteer and board member to support the choral program.
- NHS Swim Team- Helena and David are both parent volunteers that help support the team and coaches.
- Junior Women's Club- Helena served in various positions on the board including treasurer and fundraising chair, specifically focusing on efforts for the Children's Attention Home and the Palmetto School.
